The Moorhen Video

Ok.. well I learned a bunch trying to video the Moorhens!!  First off I learned I need to grow another hand!

Trying to hold the camera in one hand and start the video and trying to hold bread (both whole slices and a Piece broken off for the Moorhen) and trying to video a fast moving little bird and trying to keep the bigger Ibis away from her ...well... it doesn't work well.

But for what little it's worth here is Mama Moorhen and Family.

By the way the reason she runs so fast when she grabs the bread is because all those dang Ibis start running after her and trying to take the bread away from her!!

these are very short movies yet take nearly 1/2 hr each to upload to youtube.. I don't know what to do differently to make the upload shorter  I'd do something with books but if this short thing takes 1/2 hr I can't imagine what a 4 minute video would take to upload.  I wonder if its because it's from my canon camera and not from a camera on the computer?  Anyone have any ideas??

Does your computer have Windows Movie-maker on it? Mine came with it, and if you put your movies on that, they upload to Youtube much faster.

You don't sound godfather-ish at all!! I love your voice Pat! And I love these videos :) I've come to love the Moorhens so it's so great to see them in action! I can't get over how fast she is!! Must be those big feet!

Oh these are great! Love her running the gauntlet of the Ibis. And your voice is not at all 'godfatherish'! LOL. Hope you can work out how to upload more quickly.

Chris & Cath: she's fast alright, but those dang Ibis chase her and will grab the bread right out of her mouth!!!

I was at the apt. office today and some people were there talking about the birds and said one man took off his shoe and tossed it at the Ibis when they chased the Moorhen for bread... we all toss bread to them too but they eat it so fast and are bottomless pits! and then back at chasing mama moorhen.

What a treat on a chilly, gray, rainy day here in the north! I love seeing the darling in action, so to speak. And I agree with Nymeth - it's great hearing your voice!

Looking at the clips, I think your problem with uploading time is the movie quality and your internet speed. Your movie quality looks quite high, so you might want to change the settings on your camera. There should be a menu with movie dimensions somewhere. (Just like photos you can have a higher and lower resolution that influences the quality and file size.) If that's not it, though, I don't know what the problem is. *hugs* I hope I'm being of some use at least anyway.

Awww, I like your voice, Pat. It sounds all comfortable and lovely, like a warm hug. ^-^ (And a movie of the Booboo Kitty! And moorhens! *squee* You just cheered up my day a lot, sweetie! ^-^)

hi cj: like many others i hate my accent! but thanks anyway lol

hi Naomi: well all i know is that if I put it on youtube then I don't have to have iton my computer too..and should I crash I wouldn't loose it then.

thanks Pam :o)

Hi Shanra. yeah I know about "size" but whatever the softwear that came with my camera is it doesn't have a way to make the movie a smaller dimension.. i'll keep working on it though thanks!!!

I loved the sound of your voice Pat. I usually just walk off and leave my computer when I am uploading a movie into Utube. I have never timed it. Loved those movies. Boy that mama can really run. Hugs, Helen

*shakes head* I don't mean editing software. There should be a setting on your camera somewhere that lets you fiddle with the dimensions.

If I could get my hands on said camera I'd probably find it in a few minutes, but as I don't/can't all I can really do is recommend skimming through the section on video recording in the user's manual again and insisting that there should be a mention of how to change the dimensions somewhere.

libritouches: There is a camera setting but... i am using the "size" that youtube says to use. it's ok lol.. it's nothing I would do much of anyway.. i prob. will do one or two more and then not. if i had a camcorder that would be way different, but using my normal photo camera for a "movie" isn't the greatest anyway.

Hi Pat! thanks for the videos of the moorhens. Previously I thought the parents were fatter and bigger (the view of sitting in the water) ... but she's one quick Momma!

Loved seeing them. And any time you want to fuss about the hot weather in the fall ... feel free. I fuss about the cold weather all winter.

Not the snow though ... love that stuff!
